I spoke with Scott Swing this morning. He has never heard of this happening on a Velocity. He said he did have a similar experience once in a Tri Q airplane. He remembers it as being very violent and nothing he wanted to do again.

The plane was designed to take a great deal of abuse. The original brake and rudder pedals were combined in one and it was possible to touch down with a brake applied. This happened often with new Velocity pilots. Even under those circumstances this had not happened. Scott feels you should be able to lock the wheels up tight and not damage the gear. At worst you might need new tires.

Velocity is putting a parts order together for me. I'm sick with myself for doing this. I can't beat myself up too bad. It won't help, and my reaction made sense based on my history. I've learned something and now I have to move forward.

I have to keep my perspective. The leg did not just fail and break off. That would have been horrible. It could have been worse.
